Mama Wore That: Dedication Dress

I wrote here about how our church has recently renovated our sanctuary and that on the day we rededicated it, Clara wore the dress that I had worn thirty years ago when I was dedicated in that same congregation.  It was a special day!

I didn't get any fabulous shots of her in the dress though, since it was rainy, so we had another photo shoot so I could make sure these memories were captured.

Here are a few "dressing room" photos before we got outside.

And here's our girl, at eighteen months.

If you're happy and you know it...

Clap your hands!

(She's happy.  We know it.)

I should say, this slip was handmade and the tatting hand done by my great-grandmother (Clara's great-great-grandmother) Beulah Craig.  Such a beautiful, classic, precious heirloom.

And here she is in the dedication dress.

  1. She is exceptionally beautiful. I just love her and she makes me smile with that gorgeous smile, and inquisitive eyes. She is an encourager.

I had several dresses like that, and hope someday God might bless me with a sweet girl to wear it, whether he creates that girl in my womb or a million miles away in a different country. I know it must mean so much to your mom to see Clara in that dress. Savor every moment!

  4. This is one of my all-time favorite blog entries. Clara, let me tell you about your great-grandmother Davis. She was the best mother-in-law a woman could ever have. She taught YOUR grandmother Davis to treasure heritage...such as the beautiful handiwork done by your great-great-grandmother, Boo. She is the one who brought your mother that sweet dress when she was dedicated at church. She would have loved you passionately. I have no doubt that she prayed without ceasing for you while you were so sick and that she still tells God how special you are. I love you, Clara...more than words can say!

    1. Clara, your great-grandmother Davis would also have dressed you up in my blue velvet dress with the fancy collar and taken lots of pictures of you and then lost them--never to be found again! :) (I keep thinking we'll come across the ones of Chrissy one day somewhere!!) But most of all, your great-grandmother would have taught you all about her best friend, Jesus, who healed you and loves you and has a VERY special plan for your life!! I love you, Clara!
