Looking Back: October {Apple Picking}

Oh, October.  You are full of so many fun fall traditions.  From apple picking to Halloween, there was a lot of fun crammed into this month.  Last fall I was so so so very sick (thanks, pregnancy) and couldn't do many of these fun activities.  That made it extra sweet to get them all in this year.  Picking apples is one of our very favorite family fall traditions and we loved taking Eloise on her first apple picking adventure this year.  There couldn't have been a prettier day for it!

Crunch, crunch, yum.

Apples, Apples

Here's the setting for a perfect fall family morning.  Rows and rows of apple trees atop a gorgeous NC mountaintop.

The cool part is, this particular orchard (Perry Lowe, in Wilkes County) is where we used to take first graders on a field trip when I worked at Forsyth Country Day.  When Robert and I had just started dating (long-distance, mind you), he came along with our class on our field trip.  I even had his mom sign the permission slip.  I hadn't been back in eight years, so it was really cool that our return trip included Clara.

The rest probably doesn't need many words.  Just our sweet family picking and eating sweet apples and loving watching Clara delight in God's creation.  Happy, happy stuff.  Enough to last through the upcoming long winter months, I hope.

Here's Clara a few days later, with Mama K, turning all those apples into applesauce

Apples, apples, what a treat,
sweet and tart and good to eat.
Apples green and apples red,
hang from branches overhead,
and when they ripen, down they drop,
so we can taste our apple crop.
