Catching lightning bugs is perhaps one of my greatest, purest, most joyful childhood memories. It was on my summer bucket list to make sure Clara got to do this for the first time, but it doesn't get dark til after her bedtime so we just kept talking about it and talking about it, but never finding a good night for it.
There was finally a night when a thunderstorm had just rolled through, leaving the sky dark before the sun dipped below the horizon. Clara was fresh out of her bath and in her PJs, but we scooped her up and took her out and watched as her face lit up in delight and wonder. Okay, okay, I might have had more fun than she did, but it was absolutely one of the greatest highlights of my whole summer. I'm thankful to have these images and video to help me hold on to this memory, and I'm really thrilled to get to share them with you. I hope you can taste just a bit of the summery happiness here.
And let them go.
Thank be to God for lightnin' bugs.
