Penelope

We've just found out that Penelope, the little girl that shares Clara's birth defect, was not able to make it off the ECMO pump. Samantha and D.J. are somewhere in the process of letting her go. Please join us in praying for them as they go through the hardest thing I can imagine.

There are so many questions I have about this, but they are questions that I doubt will ever be answered on this side of life. No one deserves this. Our hearts are breaking for them. And we try to keep counting our many, many blessings, even though we do so with mixed feelings in the face of such tragedy.

May God grant Samantha and D.J. peace.

  2. I am so. so sorry to hear this sad update on little Penelope. How I wish I could reach out to her parents. PLEASE tell them how much we have come to love them and will have them in our hearts and prayers in the days ahead. I had so hoped that GOD would give them the gift that he has bestowed on you .... but HE knows the reason and we will just have to trust what HE knows is best.
Thank you for sharing this little life with us.

  4. Many many prayers for them, we were in that place of having to let go, there are no words we can say to help, only prayers and let them know that we care. May all our prayers lift them up to God to help them get thru this time.

  7. Our thoughts and prayers are with Penelope and her parents, may God give them the strength to get through this terrible time. Hopefully, Penelope will say "heck no, I won't go" like Clara and turn everything around.

  10. Chrissy, as a former NICU nurse who worked with ECMO babies, it is heartbreaking to watch families suffer so. Human bodies are fragile, far more than we think. I read that only 1/3 of CDH babies who need to resort to ECMO are able to come off.

I will pray God will care for them and help them in their darkest hour and the days ahead.

  15. This is so distressing news and my heart goes out to Penelope and her parents and family. I can only cry and pray for them.
I hope that Clara will start to gain some weight and be able to go home with you all soon.
    We are still praying.

  17. Praying for Samantha and DJ to have supportive family and friends around them as they celebrate the life of Penelope. God's story is perfect even when we do not see it that way.

    I know I can't understand, but I can pray.
